Choosing Life introduces the principles and practice of Compassionate Communication.
We explore in practical ways based on your own examples how we tend to interpret the world through our thoughts and how it is that so much of our thinking can be judgemental, blaming, of others and of ourselves. We learn to differentiate our thinking about a situation from the facts of a situation and practice using this distinction to support us in connecting to a place of values. We also explore how feelings are a guide to my longings and the beauty that lies in them whether met or unmet in that moment. Using these insights, we practice empathic listening and expression as means of seeing and hearing others and being seen and heard ourselves as we would truly wish to be seen and heard.
The emphasis on all courses is on practical work in pairs or small groups in a safe and supported environment.
Dwelling in Beauty is a course for those who have attended at least one Choosing Life course or have other similar experience.
Dwelling in Beauty focuses on deepening the practice and understanding of the core aspects of Compassionate Communication. Processes are introduced that support a deeper exploration into the beauty of my longings and their true nature. We also explore more deeply the core beliefs that underlie much our day to day reactive thinking and see how greater familiarity with these beliefs diminishes their impact. We also introduce further exercises in empathic listening and speaking.
Practice Groups are open to those who have attended one of our courses. These groups, which meet weekly one evening for five or six weeks, offer a regular opportunity to re-enforce and practice the work we do on our courses, using the examples and issues attendees bring each week. The ground we cover is very much determined by the participants. As with our courses, the emphasis on practical work in pairs or small groups in a safe and supported environment.
We are happy to organise workshops for groups of as few as six up to 30 or more, built around specific days, evenings or weekends. We have found this can be a very productive way of sharing and developing Compassionate Communication skills. Such workshops are customised to fit in with the requirements and interests of the group.
